Advocacy/Advice
Advocacy for participants
At Unleashed Futures, our team comprises independent consultants and dedicated advocates who specialise in addressing housing challenges and necessities. We are devoted to providing unbiased advice and personalised support, ensuring that your choices and interests are prioritised. Our role is to assist you in managing and resolving any conflicts of interest that may arise, including those that might be perceived. We aim to help you understand all available options, offering clarity in complex situations and ensuring that your decision-making process remains transparent and informed. By empowering you with clear, understandable information and advice, we strive to ensure that your decisions align with your objectives and needs, confidently guiding you through complexities and respecting your rights and preferences every step of the way. We offer advocacy in areas such as conflicts of interest (e.g., when the SIL and SDA provider is the same or has a partnership), housing arrangements, and provider agreements. In the Australian disability context, the term “Advocacy” with a capital ‘A’ refers to formal, funded programs, such as the National Disability Advocacy Program (NDAP) or Regional Disability Advocacy Service (RDAS). This sector is distinct from service providers and operates to protect and promote human rights, support individuals with disabilities facing systemic disadvantage, and challenge institutions, policies, and services on individual, systemic, and policy levels. Meanwhile, lowercase “advocacy” represents informal actions taken by anyone, including supports raising concerns, individuals speaking up for themselves, family members advocating for loved ones, allies amplifying the voices of people with disabilities, and community groups pushing for change.
